A first session with a hypnotherapist begins with just talking to each other. I will want you to tell me what you want to achieve from the sessions and how motivated you are to attain positive results. Talking will help the two us design a customised proceedure to exactly suit your needs to reach your personal goals.
Then, while sitting in a comfortable chair, you will learn about what is called an "induction technique", such a technique will help you enter a relaxed state. A relaxed state is similar to the feeling of daydreaming or getting absorbed in a good book.
Some induction techniques are as simple as closing your eyes and counting backwards , or I might ask you to picture yourself walking down a flight of stairs, becoming more and more relaxed as you descend.
As you slip into a relaxation, you will be aware of your surroundings. You may be told to imagine yourself in a beautiful, peaceful place that will relax you even further.This will help clear your mind of distracting thoughts and allow you to focus totally on the hypnotherapist's suggestions which are specifically designed to use the power of your mind and imagination to help you solve your problems and attain your goals.
Please note that a suggestion will only work if you want it to, and nobody can make you do or say anything that is against your will. During hypnotherapy you are always in control, and you can end a session at any time.
A typical session lasts about an hour.
